Getting found by the search engines

We are quite pleased to know that most artHIVES sites are now appearing on the first page of search results in Google when searching by name.

If your site is not showing up in search results yet there may be a simple reason.

To start with you need to be patient. Search engines work by trawling the web for new and updated web pages. Until a search engine trawls your site, you will not appear in their search results.1.

Search engines work by searching for key words on your website, in particular your home page. For this reason it is important that the text on you home page contains words which people might use to find your website.

Try to think of all the keywords some one might use to search for you on the web. First and foremost, make sure you have your name and include words that describe your art practice and where you work. You might also consider mentioning where you have exhibited before, where you have studied and anything you are well known for.

1. Some websites, like news sites, get trawled more regularly than other sites which is why breaking news stories often appear in search results. Technically it is possible to code a site to let search engines know to trawl a site more regularly however this system can not be abused without risking a site being black-banned perminantly. As most artHIVES website home pages are not updated on a hourly, daily or even monthly basis, the time search engines take to find new subscribers to artHIVES can takes weeks, however be reassured that it does happen and once it does we are confident that your site will be listed high in the search results.
