Stephen Newton Exhibition and Book Launch |
Stephen Newton opens his tenth solo exhibition of sculpture at Doggett Street Studio, Brisbane on Friday 25 May at 6pm. figura reverto presents new work in hardwood and steel.
The exhibition also launches the publication of genius loci, a 160 page full colour hardcover monograph highlighting sculptural work over 25 years of practice. With introductory and chapter essays by Elizabeth Bates, the monograph explores studio work, site specific environmental installations, sculptures for interiors and public art commissions.

All You Need is Love |
Ted Barraclough has more than 15 new bird sculptures included in the exhibition All you need is Love curated by Bronwyn Johnson.
All you need is Love considers relationships among friends, strangers, relatives and partners that may be fleeting, wistful, unrequited and enduring. Other artists include Robert Arnold, Jon Campbell, Patrick Hartigan, Anastasia Klose, Tracey Moffatt.
The exhibition opens at the Chandon Winery (727 Maroondah Highway, Yarra Valley, Victoria, 03 9738 9245) on Saturday 2 June and continues until 2 September 2012. Opendaily 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Reynolds and Riegler to collaborate |
Visual artist Allyson Reynolds and composer/musician Heinz Riegler have received a RADF grant to create an interdisciplinary installation in which Reynolds will produce new large scale paintings and Riegler a new musical score. Both Reynolds's and Riegler's recent works have sought to identify naturally occurring patterns and oscillations and the works created will merge to form a unique installation, which will be exhibited in the Focus Gallery (for new media) at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery in February 2013. |

A.J. Taylor - The Mapleton Suite |
A.J. Taylor's new work - The Mapleton Suite - is a group of closely observed studies of rainforest trees in the Mapleton Forest Reserve (Sunshine Coast hinterland) which is currently on at Jan Murphy Gallery (486 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley, Qld. Ph: 07 3254 1855). Devised as a complement to - Mapleton - an exhibition of large scale works at Martin Browne Contemporary (Sydney) earlier this year, the new show presents a more intimate view of the Australian rainforest. The exhibition runs to 26 May.

Susan Buret and Nicola Moss - Weathered |
New exhibition - Weathered - is a series of artworks developed by Susan Buret and Nicola Moss during a collaborative residency at Montsalvat in 2011. The exhibition at Tweed River Art Gallery (Murwillumbah, NSW. Ph: 02 6670 2790), was officially opened by Carl Warner on Friday 11 May, and continues to 24 June. There was an artist demonstration on Sunday 13 May, when Susan and Nicola made a collaborative artwork in response to weather conditions of the day. |

New Racheal Brühn work at Retrospect |
Racheal Brühn now has a presence on the gallery wall, as well as the storeroom at Retrospect NSW (52 Jonson St, Byron Bay, NSW) with these watercolour and graphite drawings from a series of 30 yellow/black images. One of these drawings was selected as a finalist in the Brunswick Street Gallery drawing prize in March 2012. She is working on another 30 full colour drawings to follow in this suite, hoping to get a show of these towards the end of this year. |

Ann O'Connor - Vessels of Change |
Ceramist and jeweller Ann O’Connor will have a one woman show - Vessels of Change - at Art on Cairncross Gallery (Maleny, Qld) which opens on 2 June (2pm) and runs to 17 June. The show will feature ceramic sculptures highlighting migration to Australia from the Aborigines onwards, and the contributions new arrivals have made to our culture. |

Rachael Lee finalist in awards |
Rachael Lee's - The Bright Bells are Ringing - has been preselected for entry into the 2D category of the 2012 Moreton Bay Region Art Awards. This year's awards, judged by Ross Searle, will open on Friday 18 May (6pm) at Strathpine Community Centre (199 Gympie Road, Strathpine, Qld) and run to 27 May. A guided tour including the judge's comments happens at Saturday 19 May (11.30am) and there's an Art and Craft Market Day from on Saturday 26 May (10am-3pm).
