This painting and its companion piece (Hume Hwy I) contain a related narrative and are based on various experiences of the artist and his family travelling up and down the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Sydney over many years. The setting in both works is the hill country between Yass and Albury, especially around Gundagai with hills dotted with trees and scarred by erosion. Despite now being a dual carriageway for much of its length, road accidents still happen. |
