On a 2007 visit to England the artist had the good fortune to receive a tour of the Henry Moore Foundation at Perry Green, Much Hadham in Hertfordshire, to the north east of London. Henry Moore was a major international figure in the world of twentieth century sculpture. The Henry Moore Foundation is housed on the sculptor’s original rural property. Many of his monumental sculptures are to be found carefully placed around the site and Henry Moore’s workshops may be viewed, left the way he used them at the time of his death in the late 1980’s. In the painting the viewer is invited to travel around the rich green, tilting landscape following the various paths and hedge rows of the grounds. Henry Moore himself, can be seen walking along the path to his workshops and following him, bumbling along, are numerous small models or maquettes of his sculptures, as well as bones, flints and other items Moore used to inspire him.
Collection of the Artist.
