A block of land not far from the artist’s home had been left vacant since the development of that area in the sixties. A family had purchased and were saving the property for their daughter for when she married, or so local folk lore said. Finally the land was put up for sale and the long-time thought of responding to that particular space had to be acted upon by the artist. The painting is a medium–sized vertical picture viewed slightly from above and focussing on the vacant land and its bordering paling fences. There is lush grass and weeds showing in the sunlight and shadow of the block, and even some car tyre marks. However, beyond the paling fence on the two sides and top of the picture is just a band of the teeming vegetation and built-up environment of the rest of the suburban housing development. A new two storey brick dwelling now rests on the site.
